Since 2000, l'Association Francophone de l'Interaction Humain-Machine (AFIHM) organizes every two years the Rencontres des Jeunes Chercheuses et Jeunes Chercheurs (RJC) in Human Computer Interaction. This event follows a series of successful doctoral meetups that trained dozens of future professional HCI researchers and practitioners in a convivial and motivating environment where they live and work together for a few days. You can have a look at the previous RJC editions.

In 2019, the RJC were for the first time jointly organized with SIGCHI Italy. In 2022, we are glad to continue this common effort between AFIHM and SIGCHI Italy, and announce the 2nd bienniAl Franco-Italian young Researcher Meetup in Computer-Human Interaction (AFIRM CHI).

Once again, the AFIRM CHI will be a Franco-Italian event opened to both french-speaking and italian-speaking young researchers. The event will be held in English, and for the first time, in Italy, in the beautiful city of Padova!

The Meetup addresses PhD students, and, on a limited basis, Master students in HCI from Italian and French universities. It aims at improving participants' ability to effectively present their HCI projects to scholars, stakeholders and funding agencies. All activities are in English.

The event starts with preparatory work done remotely to set the challenges and the needed resources, and then continues physically at the summer school's site. The program alternates workshops, teamwork and presentations on the following topics:

  • how to quickly outline a project idea as a team;
  • how to create professionally-looking illustrations for presentations and papers;
  • what to emphasize in a grant application and pitch;
  • how to meet reviewer’s and funder’s expectations.

The activities will focus on a case study, the distributed UNESCO touristic site known as « Padova Urbs Picta », and include a visit to the site itself.

To help us bring this program to life, we are glad to welcome the following speakers: Wendy Mackay (Inria), Sylvain Malacria (Inria), Jacopo Sacquegno (Visualteams), Elisa di Rosa (Università degli studi di Padova), and other speakers.
